Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

This clip of Zack Morris (i.e. my crush after Johnny from Dirty Dancing and before Tommy from Power Rangers) has been all over the news and the web. Yup, Zack’s still got it. As I watched him on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, I couldn’t help but think back to the time I was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Yeah, you read that right. I was on Jimmy Fallon … well, sort of.

On Friday, April 17, my mom and I attended the taping of the 30th episode. If you follow me on Twitter, you may recall this TwitPic of my wristband that I snapped as I stood on line waiting to enter the studio. Once we were inside the studio we had to shut our phones off, so I wasn’t able to take a picture of the set. I must say that it is way smaller than it looks on TV. Cameras make everything appear larger, just look at Rockefeller Plaza.

The guests for that night’s show were Matthew Perry of Friends fame and Adam Goldberg from the ABC show The Unusuals. The musical guest was Greek fan favorite, the Plain White T’s.

Guest lineup from episode 30 of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Friday April 17 2009

Before the show started, The Roots got the audience pumped up with what felt like a half hour set. My mom and I loved it. I so need to go to one of their shows at the Highline Ballroom one of these Tuesdays. The set ended with the band segueing into the Late Night theme song and the announcer Steve Higgins announcing the lineup. Then out from behind those blue curtains came Jimmy Fallon. He did his monologue and made his way to the desk. In between breaks the makeup ladies would come out and touch him up.

Okay, here’s the part where I ended up on TV. I know that’s what you’ve been waiting for, right? When Jimmy sat at his desk, he started talking about some guy from Survivor who he knows. Apparently the guy was booted off the show the night before and was in the audience. They panned over to him and he just so happened to be sitting two rows in front of me so guess who ended up on TV … yours truly! I didn’t realize it until I watched the show that night. When I looked at the monitors that hung above the audience, all I saw on the screen was my shirt, so when I came home I was in shock that I was all there in tact for a couple of seconds.

See that girl in the striped shirt? That’s me!

After I got my 15 seconds of fame, it was time for Jimmy to choose a new President of Late Night. The guy chosen was Deep Nasta (real name) and as the camera panned to him, guess who was on TV again?

I see me! I see me! And the guy with the brown jacket/olive shirt’s the President.

After Deep’s inauguration, he was given a Portuguese water dog puppy and a special seat next to two (hot) “Secret Service” guys.

After that segment my camera time was up for good, but it was time for the real celebs to come out. Matthew Perry was up first and didn’t think the blue armchair I’ve been in love with since the first episode was so comfy. This resulted in him and Jimmy putting their feet up, which didn’t last long, but made for a funny moment and a great picture.

Adam Goldberg was up next. He was really funny, and every time I see him on The Unusuals I think back to the show. After Adam’s interview, he and Jimmy did the show promos for the different networks. That was cool to watch. I always wondered if people were really in the audience when they do them, and now I know because I’m one of those people.

When the Plain White T’s came on to perform 1, 2, 3, 4, they actually stopped singing shortly after they started. I overheard one of the guys say that lead singer, Tom Higgenson, was sick. After he drank some water, the band started their song over again and I’m glad they did. Tom’s voice sounded 100 times better. I actually found out a week later that he had pink eye on top of being sick, causing the band to cancel two NYC shows. Poor thing.

After Jimmy signed off, he ran through the crowd as usual and touched people’s hands. The show had ended and it was time to go in peace. I actually got to ride the elevator with the new Late Night President and found out what everyone was wondering … he wasn’t an actor! He could have fooled me.

When we left the studio, mom and I made our way to T.G.I.Friday’s for sliders followed up by a quick trip to H&M because no NYC trip is complete without a trip to H&M of course.

Now whenever we wear the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon t-shirts we got at the NBC Experience Store, people stop and ask about the show and we can’t help but recap our evening.
