Remembering Patrick Swayze

The first time I saw Patrick Swayze, I was three years old. I was watching Dirty Dancing, and it’s still my favorite movie of all-time.

Swayze played Johnny Castle, a working class dancer from the wrong side of the tracks. He had style, swagger, and most importantly, dancing skills! After watching that movie dozens of times, I decided I wanted to dance too. Of course I did ballet instead of ballroom, so I grew bored quickly and quit after a term and a half. Although I may not dance anymore, Swayze gave me such a love for the art of dance.

Dirty Dancing really paved the way for the modern dancing movies that we see today like Take the Lead and the Step Up series. Patrick Swayze did more for the dance world in a 105 minute movie than he could ever imagine. He will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace.
