In Review: Rihanna – Rated R

I should have been sleeping, but found myself online listening to Rihanna’s new album Rated R.

Rihanna's Rated R album cover

Rihanna‘s fourth album was definitely worth losing sleep over. On Rude Boy she takes her last album’s title Good Girl Gone Bad and runs with it! Tracks like Russian Roulette and Stupid in Love sound more personal and and give listeners insight into what’s been going through her mind these past couple of months. Currently Cold Case Love, written and produced by Justin Timberlake, is also generating a lot of online buzz.

In just a few years, Rihanna’s sound has evolved and matured. Rated R is less pop than her last release. It’s more rock-heavy and adds a harder rockstar edginess to Rihanna’s discography. Fittingly one of the album’s highlights is Rockstar 101, a collaboration with guitar legend Slash of Guns N’ Roses. Other collaborators include Jeezy and will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas.

Rated R officially comes out on November 23. From beginning to end it’s definitely worth a listen.
